About Us....
Garden
Connections Ltd. is run by husband and wife team Russ and Patricia
Yates. Russ has been gardening for over 20 years, spending seven
of those years in Japan promoting British gardening and British
garden products. Russ enjoyed giving regular lecture courses, writing
articles in local and national magazines and participating in some
television work. He was also the British Embassies gardening advisor
in Japan where he was commissioned to make a British garden at the
Ambassadors residence and put together a training and maintenance
plan for the Embassy compound.
His
promotion of British gardening resulted in the publication of his
two gardening books in Japanese, the first in 1998 and the second
in Autumn 2000. Both books are available from our British Shop on
the website. Russ also made a two part video series in Japanese.
These videos explain how to make a British style garden in Japan
based on his experience of living and working in the Japanese climate.
The video should not only be pleasurable to watch but can also be
used as a reference for much of the necessary work in the garden.
See our shop for more details.
Russ
has always enjoyed passing on his knowledge to amateur gardeners
or people taking up gardening as a hobby for the first time. He
feels that it is very important to help people who express an interest
to learn and looks forward to continuing this in the future.
As well as the promotion of British gardening he also helped many
companies to achieve successful sales in the Japanese market and
continues to introduce new companies and products to the market
today.
Patricia
qualified as a schoolteacher in England in 1983, having graduated
with a degree in Education. Since this time she has taught children
from the age of three through to adulthood, teaching a full British
Primary National Curriculum and English language as a separate subject.
This teaching work has taken place in three countries Britain, Japan
and briefly in China.
The brief visit to China and subsequent period of eight years in
Japan was generated by her other interest of alternative medicine.
She attended numerous courses on Aromatherapy, Relaxation, Yoga,
Hypnotherapy, Homeopathy and Reflexology. Her immediate pleasure
and fascination was with Aromatherapy and this encouraged her to
train as an Aromatherapist. She qualified with The London School
of Aromatherapy in 1991. She has since practised and taught the
subject during her time in Japan as well as teaching about topics
to do with British lifestyle.
Since returning to Britain Russ carries on designing, making gardens
and consolidating products for export to business clients while
Patricia spends the majority of her time running our home stay business,
practises aromatherapy, and teaches when she is free.
Patricia
is looking forward to passing her knowledge and skill on to people who
wish to learn about the joys of aromatherapy and British lifestyle through
our website and home stay opportunities. Join her each month if you
are a 'Gold' member of our British Garden & Lifestyle Club to view
her pages on aromatherapy as well as British cooking.
